I would like to think that I am sophisticated when it comes to my taste in things. Not overly so, because if you take it too far you just get to be snooty. But I think I have an eye for the finer stuff, whether I actually want it or not, or think it's important is another story. Of course, I may be dead wrong about it. So, the question is, does a dog chess set qualify as one of the finer things? Or would people stare down their noses at one. And maybe at me too.

This is another one of my indulgences. I don't see why I can't have some fun with a dog chess set from time to time. I am also a fan of that painting of them playing poker, in case you were wondering. Oddly enough, I don't actually have a puppy. I live in an apartment and I don't think it's a good idea to keep one cooped up all day long. One day I'm going to move into a house with a yard just so I can get one. Until then I'll just have to get my fill of them with my dog chess set though.
I went with one of the ones that have all dogs in them. Some have dogs versus cats, which is funny too, but not what I wanted. I don't really like cats all that much. And although I would love to beat up on an opponent playing them, I don't even want to look at them for that long. Which sounds pretty hardcore now that I'm reading that back to myself. I wouldn't throw a snowball at one or anything. My parents had cats when I was growing up. So, I have played nicely with them in the past. They're just too independent for me. Theyt could care less whether anyone's there or not. I don't want to see that on my dog chess set. I just want to see fluffy, loving pooches trying to castle.
I have taken to playing on a wide variety of boards these days to mix things up. I have always maintained that keeping things simple is a great way to go. That way you are free to concentrate on the nuances of the game. But when you play as much as I do, there are times when you just want to mix it up a little. I have several different styles of board and pieces to play with. I mostly use the simple ones, but every now and then it becomes time to get the dog chess set out and have myself a battle of the canines.
I'll probably wind up doing that sometime soon, as a matter of fact. I haven't done that in a long time. I've been too busy playing serious games with serious people. I've won most of them too. But it's getting to the point where it's starting to hurt my head. I've begun to take it as too much of a competition again. I have always had a problem with treating it too seriously from time to time. That's another thing that having a dog chess set is great for. Just learning to lighten up about things. When all is said and done, it is only a game.
